Danny Torres incoronat castigator @ Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2011

Sep 17, 2011 No Comments by

Site-ul Red Bull X-Fighters anunta: “Dany Torres (ESP) was crowned the overall champion of the 2011 Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour in Sydney (Australia), the world’s most prestigious FMX tour. Local hero Josh Sheehan won the event on his home soil on Cockatoo Island in front of a sell-out crowd of 11,000.”

SYDNEY (AUS) - Sydney will go down in the 11-year-history of the Red Bull X-Fighters as the most spectacular event ever. The winner Josh Sheehan as well as his compatriot Cameron Sinclair aced a total of three double backflips on ordinary motocross bikes. “I was confident I could do it and just went out and did it,“ said Sheehan, who defeated New Zealand’s Levi Sherwood in the final. “It was what won it for me.“

For Dany Torres getting third place was enough to clinch the overall title at the finale stop of the year in front of Sydney’s impressive skyline, wrestling the title away from Nate Adams (USA) who had taken top honors in 2009 and 2010. Adams took part despite a broken shoulder but ended up in 11th place. The 24-year-old Spaniard, the newly crowned champion, won the season-opener in Dubai (UAE) and in the bullfighting ring of Madrid (ESP). Adams had the best tricks to win the events in Brasilia (BRA), Rome (ITA) and Poznan (POL).

The Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour enthralled more than 230,000 fans at six events on four continents in 2011 and proved to be quite literally a knock-out contest. Both Torres (Brasilia) and Adams (Madrid) were sidelined at events because of injuries. Top favorite Andre Villa, who ended up in third place overall, suffered a broken thigh in Poznan and was forced to put his FMX bike in the garage before the end of the season.

Final results Sydney (AUS) 2011: 1. Josh Sheehan (AUS), 2. Levi Sherwood (NZL), 3. Dany Torres (ESP), 4. Mike Mason (USA), 5. Rob Adelberg (AUS), 6. Adam Jones (USA); 11. Nate Adams (USA), 12. Eigo Sato (JPN)

Final World Tour standings (after 6 of 6 events): 1. Dany Torres (ESP) 390 points, 2. Nate Adams (USA) 375, 3. Andre Villa (NOR) 270, 4. Josh Sheehan (AUS) 230, 5. Blake Williams (AUS), 6. Eigo Sato (JPN), 7. Levi Sherwood (NZL), 8. Adam Jones (USA), 9. Robbie Maddison (AUS), 10. Maikel Melero (ESP)

Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour ? home victory for Torres

Jul 18, 2011 No Comments by

Dany Torres (ESP) grabbed the bull by the horns with a brilliant victory on Friday night against the world?s best freestyle motocross riders in a gala event in Madrid marking the sport?s 10th anniversary at the Plaza de Toros de las Ventas. Spain?s local hero forced his rival Blake Williams (AUS) to his knees in the bullring in front of 25,000 delighted Spanish fans.

MADRID (Spain) ? Torres got a perfect five-for-five from the duly impressed jury members and sent the giant crowd watching in Spain?s biggest bullfighting arena (62 meters diameter) into fits of euphoria with his scintillating jumps of up to 15 meters high and 32 meters distance. ?It?s the best day of my life,? the 24-year-old beamed after his second victory in the bullring in Madrid, built in 1931, after what was the 10th time the Red Bull X-Fighters performed in Spain.

The tens of thousands of fans had packed the famous bullring, which had been converted into an FMX course with a gigantic pile of dirt in the center, and repeatedly held their breath watching the daring performances. Backflips, no-hand landings or 360-degree turns on ordinary motocross bikes sent shivers through the crowd and led to a series of spontaneous waves around the stadium. David Rinaldo of France and Chile?s Javier Villegas pressed a bit too hard and saw their hopes of greater glory crushed in spectacular crashes ? with fortunately neither seriously hurt. ?You?ve got to push to the boundaries of physics go do these jumps,? said Blake Williams of Australia, who took second place.

Norway?s Andre Villa moved into the overall lead — just five points ahead of Nate Adams (USA, 265 points), who was sidelined with an injury. The Norwegian ace squandered a golden opportunity to move further ahead after a blunder-filled performance in the quarterfinals. Torres collected 100 points with his second victory this year and raised his season total to 245 points (3rd place overall).

First held in 2001 in Valencia, the global FMX Tour has now been held 33 times around the world. The next event with the two-stroke engines takes place in three weeks in Poznan (POL). The season finale will take place in the home of Australian FMX superstar Robbie Maddison (Sydney/17 September).

Final results Madrid:

1. Dany Torres (ESP),

2. Blake Williams (AUS),

3. Josh Sheehan (AUS),

4. Maikel Melero (ESP),

5. Andre Villa (NOR),

6. Adam Jones (USA),

7. Javier Villegas (CHI),

8. Robbie Maddison (AUS),

9. Alastair Sayer (BOT),

10. David Rinaldo (FRA),

11. Nick Franklin (NZL),

12. Eigo Sato (JPN)

Overall results (after 4 of 6 events):

1. Villa (NOR/270 points),

2. Adams (USA/265),

3. Torres (ESP/245),

4. Williams (AUS/215),

Cei mai buni 12 gladiatori FMX – Red Bull X-Fighters @ Stadio Olympico, Roma, 24 Iunie ’11

Jun 25, 2011 No Comments by

[Avem poze faine!]

The world?s top 12 freestyle motocross athletes converted Rome?s Stadio Olimpico into a modern Circus Maximus on Friday. In front of 45,000 spectators Nate Adams (USA) nailed the tricks to earn the title as the new Roman Caesar. Andre Villa (NOR) took second place and whiz kid Josh Sheehan (AUS) came out of nowhere to take third place in the third stop of the 2011 Red Bull X-Fighters Tour.

ROME (Italy) ? The wave would not stop rolling through the Stadio Olimpico crowd as Nate Adams and Andre Villa were revving up for the start of the final showdown battle on two wheels. When it finally did, Adams got off 18 flawless jumps within the 120-second time limit to win over the five-member gladiator jury, picking up his fifth victory in the 11-year history of the Red Bull X-Fighters. ?It was the most difficult win in my career after I had a crash in Qualifying?, the 27-year-old American said afterwards.

On the biggest FMX course ever built in Italy ? with 11 kickers and 8 dirt landings ? the athletes pushed themselves to their limits, jumping distances of up to 30 meters and as high as 15 meters. Co-favorite Dany Torres (ESP), who won in Rome last year, sent a shiver through the big crowd when he crashed at the end of a botched landing in the second round. His bike veered off the course and into a barrier. Torres came to Rome with five broken bones that weren?t quite healed but nevertheless won the Qualifying round. Judging by the way his right ankle feels right now, he will leave Rome with six broken bones. The Spaniard was confident he would be ready to battle for the victory at the next stop in front of his home crowd in Madrid.

Adams widened his lead in the overall 2011 Red Bull X-Fighters standings, following a third place in Dubai (UAE) and victories in Brasilia (BRA) and Rome, to 40 points over Villa. The Norwegian still has plenty of time to catch Adams in the three remaining stops in Madrid (ESP/July 15), Poznan (POL/August 6) and Sydney (AUS/September 17).

Final results

Rome:

1. Nate Adams (USA),

2. Andre Villa (NOR),

3. Josh Sheehan (AUS),

4. Blake Williams (AUS),

5. Dany Torres (ESP),

6. Eigo Sato (JPN),

7. Adam Jones (USA),

8. Robbie Maddison (AUS),

9. Javier Villegas (CHI),

10. Maikel Melero (ESP)

Standings(after 3 of 6 events):

1. Adams (USA/265 points),

2. Villa (NOR/225),

3. Torres (ESP/145),

“Polizia” prin aer la Stadio Olympico – Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour 2011 @ Italia (Roma), 24 Iunie ’11

Jun 22, 2011 No Comments by

Ne-am gandit sa sharuim cateva poze din show.

Australian Freestyle Motocross rider Blake Williams put an original Italian police Moto Guzzi motorcycle through the paces at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome (ITA) on Tuesday afternoon. Williams will be competing on Friday evening in front of 50,000 fans at the venue, which is also home to AS Roma and Lazio Rome, on what will be the greatest FMX course ever built in Italy against the world’s best freestyle motocross athletes. Let the battle of the gladiators begin.

ROME (ITALY) – “The bike’s handling is really good even though it’s obviously a bit heavy for backflips and things like that,” the 26-year-old Williams said with a laugh. “The shock absorbers really aren’t made for this. I’m happy that I’ll be able to use my own freestyle bike in the competition on Friday evening.”

The Red Bull X-Fighters will be appearing in Rome for the second time in the history of the sport on June 24, 2011. In 2010 Dany Torres (ESP) won the spectacle in the Stadio Flaminio. Nate Adams took third place in Rome, which was enough for him to clinch the overall championship. “I can well remember the great atmosphere,” Adamds said. “There were 25,000 fans there and the place was really hopping.”

The number of spectators will double this year. There will be 50,000 spectators this year in the Stadio Olimpico, which was one of the venues for the 1990 World Cup soccer tournament.

The FMX motors will be roaring at six events on four continents this year. The riders already took to the air in front of the Jumeirah Beach Residence in Dubai (UAE) and in the Brazilian capital Brasilia. After Rome the tour moves on to Madrid, Poland and Australia.
